Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, participated on Friday 3 June in the Intersessional Meeting of the Executive Board, which aims to strengthen dialogue and preparation of Council decisions. The meeting focused on three main topics: the preparation of the next program and budget, the work of the UNESCO Institute for statistics and the role of Internal oversight services.
In her introductory speech, Director-General highlighted recent UNESCO's activities to start the implementation of Agenda 2030. "UNESCO builds on its multidisciplinary approach, which is our major asset in the implementation of Agenda 2030, " she said. The debate with Member States allowed to discuss in details some other important topics, especially the protection of cultural heritage in danger, with the event "Palmyra Talks" organized by Austria in March, or the international Ministerial Meeting devoted to the education sector as a response to violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity, organized with the support of the Netherlands.
