In a meeting with João Roberto Marinho, Irina Bokova states that Criança Esperança is an example to the world.
This Monday morning, 21 September, 2015, on a visit to Rio de Janeiro, the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, met the Institutional and Editorial Vice President of Globo Group, João Roberto Marinho. She thanked Mr. Marinho for the 14 years of partnership between Globo and UNESCO through the Criança Esperança project.
Irina Bokova said that the project is an experience that deserves to be shared worldwide. "Criança Esperança is in synergy with the world view of the Organization, especially with regard to education, creativity and social inclusion," affirmed the Director-General.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of Globo Group, in the Botanical Garden neighbourhood. The two also talked about various themes in the areas of UNESCO expertise, such as social inclusion, freedom of expression, and the importance of training and safety of journalists. The Director-General reminded that the year 2015 is the 70th anniversary of the creation of UNESCO, is the 30thanniversary of Criança Esperança and the 50th anniversary of Globo TV.
Irina Bokova is in Rio de Janeiro to participate in the opening ceremony of the International Seminar on Culture and Development within the celebration of the 70th anniversary of UNESCO. The event takes place at Cine Odeon, today, starting at 7:00 p.m. It is a partnership with the Ministry of Culture in Brazil.
Irina Bokova and João Roberto Marinho were accompanied by the Vice President for Institutional Relations of Globo Group, the Director of UNESCO in Brazil, Lucien Muñoz, and the Lead Programme Coordinator at UNESCO in Brazil, Marlova Jovchelovitch Noleto.
